An Open Letter About Our First Rehearsal Dinner Experience

**July 27, 2025**

Dear Friends, Fans, and Fellow Music Lovers,

Last Sunday, July 20th, we tried something completely new in the tribute band world – opening our rehearsal process to the public for the first time with our “Allentown Rehearsal Dinner.”

What started as an intimate gathering of 11 guests who purchased dinner tickets became something much larger when approximately 20 regular patrons at Prime 7 Restaurant & Bar walked into what turned out to be a free Billy Joel concert rehearsal. While this wasn’t exactly the controlled “golf tournament etiquette” environment we had planned, it created its own kind of magic.

**The Music Spoke for Itself**

Despite some initial challenges with crowd management and venue coordination, something remarkable happened once we started playing. Even the loudest conversations gradually quieted as the music took hold. By the end of our three-hour session, we had 31 people witnessing what I honestly believe was Allentown’s finest performance in our band’s history.

We worked on new song endings, fine-tuned arrangements, and yes – we had those authentic start-and-stop moments that define real rehearsals. The audience got to see the actual creative process, not a polished show. They witnessed professional musicians doing what we do best: making great music even better.

**Lessons Learned**

Every experiment teaches you something. We learned that our concept of offering “fly on the wall” access to professional rehearsals has real appeal – people were genuinely fascinated by the process. We also learned that successful execution requires better venue coordination and crowd management to create the respectful atmosphere that both the music and paying guests deserve.

**Looking Forward**

The band has never sounded better, and that’s what matters most. Whether we do another rehearsal dinner will depend on finding the right venue partnership and support structure. But what we proved last Sunday is that when Allentown takes the stage – rehearsal or performance – we deliver music that commands attention and respect.

To the 11 guests who trusted us with this new concept, thank you for your patience and support. To the 20 surprised patrons who stumbled into our world, we hope you enjoyed the unexpected journey through Billy Joel’s catalog.

And to everyone who believes in live music and the craft behind great performances – this is what we do. This is who we are. And we’re just getting started.

World-Class Billy Joel Tribute Band Allentown Offers Rare “Rehearsal Dinner” Experience – First Professional Open Rehearsal in Regional Music Scene
***Limited 40-Guest Event Provides Backstage Access to Watch Real Band Preparation for Busy August Schedule***

DETROIT, MI – Acclaimed Billy Joel tribute band Allentown will open their rehearsal process to the public for the first time on Sunday, July 20th from 2-5 PM.  The “Allentown Rehearsal Dinner” offers music fans a behind-the-scenes look at how a tribute band fine-tunes their performance after taking July off following their June 19th performance at Grand Hotel’s Theatre on Mackinaw Island.

“This is completely new territory for us,” said Todd Stoney, band leader and founder. “In an era where people are fascinated by behind-the-scenes content, we thought, why not give fans the real thing? This is actual reality – watching professional musicians prepare for a busy August performance schedule.”
The intimate gathering, limited to just 40 guests, represents what may be the first open rehearsal by a professional tribute band ever. Attendees will witness the creative process behind Allentown’s reputation as one of the nation’s finest Billy Joel tribute experiences.
“Because we are not learning new songs – this is about buffing and polishing,” Stoney explained. “People will see how we fine-tune arrangements and prepare for the energy we bring to every show.”
The rehearsal dinner includes a meal with choice of two entrées, any drink in the house, and exclusive access to watch the band prepare for their August shows, with their next one in Albion, MI on the 3rd. The band has kept July clear to focus on identifying and preparing a couple multi-instrumentalists as subs, while finalizing the state-wide search for a new lead singer for their Bob Seger tribute band Lookin’ Back.
“We’re close to making a final decision on Lookin’ Back’s new voice,” Stoney revealed. “Taking July off allowed us to focus on the future of both projects.”
To ensure an authentic rehearsal experience, the venue will operate under “golf tournament etiquette” – quiet respect when the band is working, while guests remain free to move around and even submit questions to be answered during their scheduled break.
“We want people to experience what a real rehearsal looks, feels and sounds like,” Stoney explained. “That means focus and respect for the music and players just like you’d find in any professional studio, but you can do this in a garage, or a controlled restaurant – doesn’t matter when this is just review after considerable time off.”

Tickets are available exclusively at www.abillyjoeltribute.com. The limited capacity ensures an intimate experience that captures the authentic rehearsal atmosphere from a ‘fly on the wall’ or invited guest perspective.

“We’re offering something that doesn’t exist anywhere else,” Stoney emphasized. “Real backstage access to watch real professionals prepare for real performances and no commercials.”
The July 20th rehearsal dinner represents a bold experiment in fan engagement for music enthusiasts, aspiring musicians, and industry professionals curious about the creative process behind live performance.
